Fanatical at Liberty

Category: customer service

Hello, my name is Shawn Vadnais. I am 43, the single mother of a 21 year old son and I live in Portsmouth, Virginia. My life changed for the better when I became an employee of Liberty Tax Service. My story begins one January afternoon with my mother driving down Indian River Road in Virginia Beach, VA. She spotted a sign that read “Free Tax School, inquire inside!”

Last year, I attempted to do my own taxes, just like I had for the previous years of my adult life. However, after driving past the guy dressed like the statue of liberty every day, I decided to have my taxes double-checked at Liberty Tax. I couldn't believe it, but they were able to get me over $1200 more for my return!! Naturally, I returned this year to have my taxes done at Liberty Tax again.

I was a joiner when I saw the hard working liberty wavers. I needed to claim some casino winnings as a non resident alien and while I knew that I needed a 1040 NR, and had a sample to follow, I thought I would let Liberty help. And help they did, and promised me a return in 8 - 21 days. Unfortunately that didn't happen.

Liberty tax touched my life because without them I would have truly been lost this year without the funds that was provided to me through there services! I am so grateful seeing that they came right on time my mother passed away Jan 30,2014!

I had been working for the city for 5 years as a library clerk. I was ellated when I was finally hired full time! At last! Insurance, full-time pay, all the perks of working full time! I was not smiling when I filed my first tax return by myself though! I had always filed my own returns electronically myself. I was used to getting around $3,400 back each year.

It was the year after I had finally been hired full time, after working for 5 years as a part-time employee. Finally! Health insurance, more money, all the good stuff of full time work. I had always filed my own taxes electronically. Well, I went to figure my taxes out and I about fell out of my chair! It said I owed both federal and state taxes! Not just a little, but a lot!

Our story began several years ago when Danny was diagnosed with Renal Failure. Over each passing year, his kidney functions have decreased to the point where he is currently at 13% function which means a kidney transplant is required within the next year or so.

My husband and I have been Winter Texans since retiring and Jim Bartlett has me prepair all my necessary financial materials my way. When we get home I just give him a ring and set up an app't. He is always ready for us on time and carefully goes over all our work, asking questions when needed, and continues to cauciousily work through our income tax records.

We LOVE Liberty!!!! Have never used Liberty before, I filed taxes for our family using an online service in the past, and ended up with a bill from the IRS for items missed or entered incorrectly. I also feel like our taxes were pretty "messy" this year - we sold a house, moved to a new city, bought a house, made significant improvements to both homes, I am a Realtor, and worked two part time "side" jobs, and we have two kids in daycare.

“Where there is unity there is always victory.” On January 23, 2014 there was an unfortunate tragedy where a fire destroyed an apartment complex where one of Liberty team members Kris lived. Thankfully, his apartment was saved and no one was injured but the fire did destroy many personal belongings and displaced six families who lived there.
