The Office of Hearings is an administrative department within the Michigan Department of Treasury, in which a taxpayer is given the opportunity to contest certain actions taken by the Department. The Office of Hearings handles matters involving a variety of different Michigan taxes, tax adjustments and tax refunds.

The personal exemption allowance increased to $3,300 for 2006. The special exemption allowance increased to $2,100.

For tax year 2006, pension benefits included in adjusted gross income from a private pension system or an IRA are deductible to a maximum of $40,920 for a single filer, or $81,840 for joint filers.
Military personnel serving in a combat zone on April 16, 2007, will be given 180 days after leaving the combat zone to file their federal and state tax returns and will be exempt from penalties and interest.
