Pennsylvania Income Tax Forms Rates & Services
The Property Tax Rent Rebate is available to those who meet each of the three following requirements:
- You must have owned and occupied a home or rented and occupied a home, apartment, nursing home, boarding home or similar residence in Pennsylvania during the period you are claiming the rebate.
- You or your spouse must have been at least 65 years old as of December 31 of the year claimed, OR
- You were a widow or widower during all or part of the year claimed and must have been 50 years or older as of December 31, OR
- You were permanently disabled during all or part of the year claimed, 18 years or older during the year, and were unable to work because of a medically determined physical or mental disability.
- Your total income, including your spouse's (who lives with you), must have been $15,000 or less if you are a renter and $35,000 or less if you are an owner. You can exclude one-half of your Social Security (SSA, SSI), State Supplemental Payment (SSP), and Railroad Retirement (Tier 1) benefits when calculating your income.
The Taxpayer Relief Act will ease the financial burden of home ownership by providing school districts the means to lower property taxes to homeowners, especially senior citizens, via the funding provided by gaming revenue.
