Liberty Tax Urges Small Businesses to Take Advantage of New HIRE Act Provisions this Year
President Obama has signed the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act (HIRE Act) designed to provide $18 billion of job creation incentives for businesses and $20 billion for highway and transportation improvements. A key benefit for sole proprietors and other businesses is an extension of a provision from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (P.L. 111-5) that allows small businesses to deduct up to $250,000 of the cost of qualifying property in the year it is purchased, rather than waiting to recover their costs through depreciation deductions over a number of years. This would extend the provision through the tax year of 2010.

Liberty Tax Service Releases Tax Season Numbers Through February 15
With the tax season well underway, Liberty Tax Service reports a 10.2% increase in the total number of tax returns filed as of February 15, 2010, and a 28.1% increase in revenue generated. Same store sales show a 3% increase in returns, and a 21.2% increase in revenue. Net fees are up 16%. Liberty Tax added 350 new locations during the past year, and has a total of 3512 brick-and-mortar locations in the United States and Canada.
