Run for Food
Over 1 billion people in the world suffer from chronic hunger and/or hunger-related illnesses. Sadly, on average, one child under five dies every 5 seconds as a result of hunger or poor nutrition. This is 6 million children per year. Most, if not all of these deaths, are in developing nations. While there is enough food produced each year to feed the world and eliminate these problems, it is not efficiently distributed where it is needed the most.
On a mission to find innovative and sustainable solutions to end
world hunger, Liberty Tax Service’s CEO, John Hewitt, co-founded Run For Food
International. This nonprofit
501(c)(3) is designed to partner with
organizations that are producing measurable results in particular areas of
need, e.g., agriculture, feeding facilities, food distribution, livestock,
education or economics. Running and walking are activities that millions of
people participate in all around the world. Every weekend, in many countries,
there are hundreds of sanctioned races. These marathons, half marathons, 10K,
8K or 5K races and fun runs are all opportunities for runners with a desire to
end world hunger to partner with Run For Food International to raise resources
that will directly benefit starving people. Run or
Food International is a new initiative that was established to find innovative
and sustainable solutions that will end world hunger. The organization was
founded in late 2010 and is growing fast. Visit the website to learn how
