With July 4th well behind us, retailers are packing up the grills and hammocks and pulling out the “Back to School” banners. I do my best to shield my boys’ eyes when we walk through Target (why ruin their summer bliss); that doesn’t mean I’m not scouting out the back to school deals now.

Almost twenty years of marriage to a diehard fisherman and over a decade and counting of raising two boys, and yet I had never had a new washing machine. It was always a hand-me-down – you know, someone was upgrading to the front loader, someone was moving, someone didn’t want to haul it to the curb – so I ended up with the leftovers.

We all witnessed the unpredictable weather this year – including storms that left inches of snow on the ground and the kids out of school for days at a time. I’m so thankful that I stocked up on much-needed emergency items last year because they were a lifesaver for me and my family.
