While in a CiCi’s Pizza, Kevin Washington received Fanatical Customer Service. He asked the busboy if he would be interested in working for our Liberty Tax Office due to his customer service skills. The young man informed us that he was an inmate and could not take the position.

The busboy told us about the work release program and how difficult it is for the inmates to get job opportunities. Kevin Washington, was immediately touched and headed over to the, Dinsmore Work Release Center – Jacksonville, FL, to meet with the director of the facility.

The director was excited about an opportunity to work with Liberty Tax Service and told us how much it meant to the community that these inmates are given opportunities to work and grow. Without these job opportunities the inmates are returned to the prison system (sometimes to never be released).

Today, January 21, 2016, we held open interviews and Waver Auditions at the work release center. We were able to hire 5 inmates to work as sign wavers. We have gone a step further, and will be mentoring the inmates with job skills, interview skills, life skills, and helping to fill any other need they may have. It is our belief that everyone deserves a second chance. We are excited to assist in the reintegration of these adults.

To our surprise, this partnership has resulted in an increase in our tax returns as well. All of the workers at the center have decided to file their taxes with Liberty Tax Service. More importantly, the inmates are required to file tax turns and will also be filing with Liberty Tax Service as well.

In addition, this outreach has touch the community and we held a roadside party today to raise awareness, funds, and goods for the center. We gained partnership from Metro PCS, Save-a-Lot, and Party Palace. Our hope is that more companies in the Jacksonville community decide to hire these individuals and give them a second chance as well.
