One day, another employee approached me and asked me if I would “wave” outside the corporate office. I had no hesitations! I put the Liberty costume on and was actually amped (super excited!) considering I had always wanted to do it. I noticed there was another person coming out to wave. As we were waving, a few minutes went by and they pulled her. I kept on waving, though. After my shift, I was told I did a phenomenal job and all the horns honking confirmed that.
The employee asked me if I could wave an hour at the beginning of the day, and an hour at the end. They needed someone out there because Liberty Tax Service was going public and wanted to cause a buzz. They also told me I would get paid extra. This was perfect timing, because my wife was about to have a baby.
The next day, I got an email telling me to clear my schedule because John Hewitt wanted to take me to lunch. I’m not going to lie; I thought maybe this was some kind of joke. I contacted my wife because we had lunch plans, and she told me it was business and that I should go alone. I wasn’t nervous, but I was curious when John and I started talking.
He asked me a series of questions. At the end of our lunch, he asked me if I had any questions. I asked, “What are we doing?” He said, “I don’t know what we’re doing yet, but there is one word that comes to mind when I think of you.” I asked, “What?” he said, “More.” I said “More?” He said, “More money, because I’m underpaying you.”
The rest is history. I am now the Guerrilla Marketing Coordinator for the northeast. John Hewitt has been a blessing. I thank God for allowing us to cross paths.
