Now that you’ve made the most important step in getting the best health plan that suits you and your family’s needs, here are some ways to effectively use your plan.
Find a trusted medical provider
Finding a doctor that you trust is extremely important, and if you can find a good doctor within your health plan’s network, you can minimize your out-of-pocket costs. Check with your insurance company’s in-network directory for physicians. Also confirm with the physician that they are in your health plan’s network to be safe.
Your health insurance deductible
A deductible is the amount you owe for medical services before your health insurance starts to kick in. It’s important to learn which medical services do not require a deductible. Depending on your plan, primary care visits may only require a copayment before you meet your deductible and some plans offer discounts on prescriptions and free disease management programs. When you receive your health plan materials, make sure you thoroughly read it to know which services are covered prior to meeting your deductible. If you’re not sure, contact your health insurance company.
Take advantage of preventative services
All health insurance plans that are purchased through the Marketplace cover preventative health care services at absolutely no cost to you before meeting your deductible. These services include:
- Cancer Screenings
- Birth Control
- Well-Child Visits
- Annual Physicals
- Pediatric Services
- Pregnancy Visits
