If you got one of these, after you filed your 2014 federal tax return, you probably were quite pleased with yourself. Big tax refunds cause some people to celebrate. They have all kinds of plans for what they can and will do with their windfall. New car. New TV. New clothes.
You have until April 15 to file your taxes. Sounds like a long time, right? Not exactly if you have a complicated tax situation or are missing important tax documents.
The IRS has $1 billion in tax refunds waiting for one million taxpayers who failed to file a federal income tax return for 2011 – and they’re pretty decent amounts. The IRS estimates that half of the refunds are for more than $698.
If you think you’re getting a refund from the IRS, we’ve got good news for you. The average tax refund this season is $3,120, according to the Internal Revenue Service. Not a bad little chunk of change, right?

Delayed refunds. They’re not words taxpayers like to hear, but some 800,000 people who enrolled in health insurance through the federal Marketplace, could find their refunds delayed.

When the IRS delays the filing start date, spending is delayed. Due to the 15-day government shutdown in October, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is delaying the 2014 tax filing season start date until January 31. 

It’s rumored that the average lifespan of a New Year’s resolution is two months – HA! Try two glasses of wine for some of us. Anyhow, for those of you who resolved to get organized this year, here is the hope that it will pay off.
